The RBAC’s Special Needs Programs are characterized by active programming that promotes quality of life improvements in a fun and supportive environment.
The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center offers several programs to meet the aquatic therapy and wellness needs of our special needs clients. We are here to ensure that our patrons receive the highest quality instruction and benefits from all we have to offer. Inclusion, consistency, and progress are the hallmarks of our therapeutic programs. Our programs address the needs of our patrons of all ages and abilities. Water is a great equalizer amongst our diverse community and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the water safely. Our goal is to provide quality swim lessons and aquatic therapy programs to our patrons.

The primary purpose of the Community Adaptive Program is to provide our special needs clients an opportunity to develop their swimming and water safety skills, while creating a social environment for them and their families. The program will increase the opportunity for families and caregivers to network with other families and the community’s resources.
The program is founded in the spirit of inclusion and socialization. Each Community Adaptive class will offer several unique opportunities for participants including the development of the “in between” skills which consists of working with others, taking turns, and appropriate social behaviors in a group setting. The program will be a combination of all ages and all skill levels.
The class will be taught by an Aquatic Therapist and volunteers from the community as well as members of the Rose Bowl competitive teams. In addition to the participating children and young adults, parents and caregivers have the opportunity to join their child in the water and learn handling skills (this is not a requirement).
For children who exceed these requirements, Stingrays is suggested. Stingrays is a swim team for young individuals with special needs, ages 6 – 17 years old. This program focuses on stroke development, endurance, strength overall health, and provides opportunities for individual instruction and team building. More information can be found at the Ray’s Swim Team page.

Aquatic Therapy is a skilled treatment method used by physical and occupational therapists to enhance your child’s functional abilities. It is an effective way to address many types of conditions including sensory, neurological, and orthopedic impairments. Aquatic therapy is an excellent supplement to land based therapy. The warm, buoyant water of the therapy pool enables your child to feet free and have fun in therapy! Therapy sessions can be booked for 30 or 60 minutes.
Physical therapy evaluations are available by request.
