FINAL 2006 INTRASQUAD MEET SCORE: RED - 959 BLACK - 957 It was just two points and hundredths of a second that decided the meet as James Gillette anchored the 13 & up Boys' 200 Freestyle Relay to touch out the Black team by .07 in the very last event! Congratulations to the Red team and to all swimmers who raced tough for their team. The individual swim of the meet goes to Jonathan Brandt for breaking our first team record of the season in the 9-10 Boys 50 yd. butterfly with a 31.45. Congratulations Johnny! (results)

SUMMER SECTIONALS Sunday 7/22, Bakersfield - Rose Bowl improved to 7th in the "Medium Team" division with 19 swimmers this year after competing last year in the "Small Team" division with just 7 swimmers. (results) Friday 7/20 - Emily Adamczyk, 15, won her first Sectionals title in the 200 Breastroke... Congratulations Emily!! Also scoring points was Wan-Jung Cheng who took first in the 400 IM consolation final & the boys' 800 Freestyle Relay finishing 11th. The morning's preliminaries saw great 200 Freestyles from James Gillette & Aram Simonian, as both posted 2:01's with each swimmer dropping over two seconds. Thursday 7/19 - LIGHTNING STRIKES! Wan-Jung Cheng, 18, started, and ended the evening with a third place finish in the women's 200 Butterfly. Shortly after, the remaining Finals were postponed due to thunder & lightning. 200 Breastrokers Emily Adamczyk (top qualifier) & Johanna Stacey (dropping 8 seconds for a 2:44), along with 200 Backstroker Kevin Tovar, will contest their events later in the meet.
"BC" FIRECRACKER MEET July 9, Woodland Hills - 105 degree heat was conducive to some pretty fast swimming for Rose Bowl swimmers! Two swimmers picked up additional JO events... FUN TIMES in SANTA BARBARA! Fourth of July Weekend - Our traditional summer travel trip to the Santa Barbara Semana Nautica meet proved to be tons of fun! We also saw some pretty fast swimming & experienced great team bonding. After the swimming, some popular activities included kayaking, "team" cycling, visiting the zoo & seeing the movie Cars. With just over 100 swimmers we captured the team title over Santa Barbara despite competing in only two of the three days. Taylor Hotvet, 14, swam to her very first SCSRT (1500 Free). Brynn Whitehouse-Levine, 12, & Ben Sullivan, 14, both added their names to the Summer JO Team in the 100 & 200 Fly, respectively. RECORD-BREAKING AA's June 22-25, Irvine - Kris Abramyan, in his last meet as an 8 year-old, lowered his own 50 Free record by almost a full second (34.62). At just 13 yrs & 2 months Scott Farley has already established new 13-14 200 & 400 IM records. His first place 4:54.16 in the 400 IM crushed the former record by almost 9 seconds. Chris Myers, 15, became our 19th Sectionals Team member with a 25.99 50 Free Katalina Sher won the 13-14 Girls 1500 Free & has now racked up four Zone & seven Sectionals events Six First Place Relay Teams!... 13-14 Girls 200/400 Free, 13-14 Boys 200 Free & Medley, 15-18 Girls 200 Free & 15-18 Boys 800 Free Seven new SCSRT qualifiers!... *** Rose Bowl All-Star Weekend *** 1/27-1/28, Pacific Coast Quad Meet, Oregon Scott Farley, 12, continued to rewrite Rose Bowl Team records as well as climb the National rankings in the 500 Free (4:59.13, 2nd in US), 200 Free (1:54.79, 9th in US) & 50 Free (24.68, 22nd in US). Emily Adamczyk, 14, placed in the top 5 in four events, posting bests in the 100 & 200 Fly. "Q" Meet Report Day 4 Our "Q" swimmers continued their climb in the Team standings, ending the competition in 14th place. Andrew Muller closed out his successful meet with a 5th place, personal best in the Mile (15:54.44), and just three seconds shy of qualifying for the Spring Senior Nationals. Andrew, great job and keep up the hard work! Also racing in the evening's finals was Emily Adamczyk (7th, 200 Breast) and Katherine Tse (22nd, 100 Free). Again, our relays were strong: Women's 4x100 Free Relays - 15th ("A") and 19th ("B") out of 32 teams. Men's 4x100 Free Relay - 8th out of 25 teams Day 3 Again, Andrew Muller was our top performer with best times in the 50 Free (22.88), 200 Fly (8th, 1:55.77) & 200 Free (6th, 1:44.10). Also racing in the evening was Emily Adamczyk (6th, 100 Breast), Eric Kim (20th, 50 Free, 22.32) & Jinu Jung (18th, 200 Fly). Personal bests in the morning's 100 Breast came from Kenzie Heaton (1:11.81), Berklie Oscarson (1:08.89), Jo Jo Stacey (1:09.15 & new Sectional qualifying time!), Carolyn Boosalis (1:13.26) & Nathan Min (1:04.50). More bests included the 50 Free for James Gillette (24.36), Katalina Sher's 200 Free (2:00.44) & the 400 IM for Berklie (4:42.02). The team sits at 17th place with one more day of racing. Day 2 Andrew Muller knocked a total of three seconds off his best 500 time with a 4:36, racing to a sixth place finish in Saturday's Finals. Earlier in the evening Andrew swam to another personal best in the 100 Butterfly (53.05) for 20th place. Great job Andrew! More personal bests were posted by: Emily Adamczyk - 100 Backstroke (1:00.86 = 13-14 SCSRT), Kenzie Heaton - Four second drop in the 200 IM (New 13-14 Spring JO time!), Katalina Sher - 5:15 in the 500 for a three second improvement, Jo Jo Stacey - Three second drop for a 2:17 200 IM, Women's 4x100 Medley Relay - 14th for "A", & 30th for "B" team (out of 40 teams), Men's 4x100 Medley Relay - 19th place (out of 30). After the second day (of four) Rose Bowl is in 20th place and looking to climb in the team standings with two very strong days coming up. Day 1 Katalina Sher is on a roll!! She qualified Friday evening for Sectionals in the 1000 Freestyle (10:39) just six days after posting her very first "Q" time (10:47) with a six second drop! Consider that Katalina had already cut 20 seconds off her best 1000 at the AA Meet a month ago, and you can do the math... that's about a 35 second improvement in just the last few months!! In the most inspirational part of the trip, the group had the opportunity to hear from, and talk with U.S. Olympians; Lindsay Benko, Kaitlin Sandeno, and Larsen Jensen.
