Preschool Level I: Water Exploration 3 to 5 years

Entry Level Requirement: Little or no swimming experience necessary.
This level is designed to introduce the inexperienced or fearful child to the water. The objective of Level I is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Children will learn how to enter and exit the pool safely, hold their breath, blow bubbles, and put their face in the water. They will learn to experience buoyancy and loss of support with comfort. Proper kicking and body position is introduced

Preschool Level II: Primary Skills 3 to 5 years

Entry Level Requirement:
1.Child must be able to glide/float 5 feet unassisted with face in the water.
2.Float on back unassisted for 5 seconds.
3. Bob 3 times assisted with bubbles.
This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills As they build their confidence, children will learn both front and back flutter kick. They will learn how to travel through the water with a basic Paddle stroke. Rhythmic breathing and change of direction are introduced.

NOTE:  No children of opposite sex over 3 years old are allowed in the main locker rooms. Please use the adjacent restrooms for dressing young children who require assistance, when a same sex caregiver is not present.

Preschool Level III: Stroke Readiness 3 to 5 years

Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to Paddle stroke 10 feet unassisted with face in the water and then lift head out of the water for one unassisted breath.
2. Bob 5 times assisted with bubbles.
3. Float on back unassisted for 10 seconds.
The objective of this level is to achieve confidence with water independence. Children will learn to come up for a breath independently and rhythmically. They will become comfortable with distance and deep water swimming. Change of direction is mastered and diving is introduced.

Preschool Level IV: Stroke Development 3 to 5 years

Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to Paddle stroke 15 yards unassisted with face in the water & repeatedly blow bubbles and come up for air.
2. Bob 10 times unassisted with proper inhale & exhale breathing.
3. Kick with fin on back unassisted for 15 yards.
4. Tread water for 30 seconds & swim back to side of pool unassisted.

This level marks the introduction of true strokes. Preschoolers will be introduced to the components of Freestyle and Backstroke. They will become confident on their back and they will learn Elementary Backstroke. Treading water and recovery to a swimming position is mastered. Sound watermanship and complete independence is achieved in this level

Preschool Level V: Stroke Refinement 3 to 5 years

Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to swim 25 yards basic Freestyle & Backstroke.
2. Tread water unassisted for 1 minute.
3. Retrieve toy from 5 foot depth & swim back to side of pool unassisted.
The objective of this level is coordination, technique, and refinement of key strokes. Preschoolers will build on endurance while stroking with proper technique. They will learn flip turns, racing dives, and diving board entry. They will learn to swim a proper freestyle and backstroke for 50yds. They will learn to coordinate arms and legs in breaststroke. Butterfly is introduced.

Preschool Level VI: Skill Proficiency 3 to 5 years

Entry level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to swim 50 yards Freestyle & Backstroke with proper form.
2.Swim 25 yards Breaststroke.
3. Familiar with butterfly kick and arms.

The objective of this level is to polish strokes so students swim with more ease, power, and proper timing over greater distances. Considerable endurance is achieved in this level. Breaststroke and butterfly is mastered. Flip turns, racing dives, starts, and finishes are mastered. This level prepares preschoolers for swim team.
