School Age Level I: Water Exploration 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement: Little or no swimming experience necessary.
This level is designed to introduce the inexperienced or fearful child to the water.
The objective of Level I is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy
the water safely. Children will learn how to enter and exit the pool safely, hold their breath,
blow bubbles, and put their face in the water. They will learn to experience buoyancy and
loss of support with comfort. Proper kicking and body position is introduced.
School Age Level II: Primary Skills 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to glide/float 5 feet unassisted with face in the water.
2. Float on back unassisted for 5 seconds.
3. Bob 5 times unassisted with bubbles.
The objective of this level is to build the swimmer’s confidence and begin to achieve water independence. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Children will learn to swim independently and breath rhythmically, moving through the water with a basic Paddlestroke. They will become comfortable with distance and deep water swimming.

NOTE: No children of opposite sex over 3 years old are allowed in the main locker rooms. Please use the adjacent restrooms
for dressing young children who require assistance, when a same sex caregiver is not present.



School Age Level III: Stroke Readiness 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to Paddlestroke 25 yards unassisted with face
in the water & repeatedly blow bubbles and come up for air.
2. Kick with fin on back unassisted for 15yds.
3. Tread water for 20 seconds & swim back to side unassisted.
4. Retrieve toy from 5 foot depth & return to side.
This level marks the introduction of true strokes. Children will learn the components of Freestyle, Backstroke
and rotary breathing. They will become confident on their back and they will learn Elementary Backstroke. Treading water and recovery to a swimming position is mastered. Sound watermanship and complete independence is achieved in this level. Diving is introduced.
School Age Level IV: Stroke Development 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle, Elementary
Backstroke, and Backstroke with proper form.
2. Tread water for 1 minute & swim back to
side unassisted.
The objective of this level is to develop coordination, confidence and endurance in swimming Freestyle, Backstroke, and Elementary Backstroke. Breaststroke, sidestroke and the basics of turning at the wall are introduced.
School Age Level V: Stroke Refinement 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to swim 50 yards Freestyle,
Backstroke with proper form.
2. Swim 25 yards Breaststroke & Sidestroke.
3. Tread
water for 2 minutes, then retrieve toy from 5 foot depth and return to side.
The objective of this level is to achieve proper timing, technique, and refinement
in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Sidestroke. Children will learn flip turns, racing dives, and diving board entry. Butterfly is introduced.
School Age Level VI: Skill Proficiency 6 to 13 years
Entry Level Requirement:
1. Child must be able to swim 50 yards Freestyle,
Backstroke, Breaststroke, & Sidestroke with proper form.
2. Swim 25 yards Butterfly.
The objective of this level is to polish strokes so students swim them with more ease,
efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Considerable endurance is
achieved in this level. Butterfly is mastered.
